History of Amathounta’s Ancient Port
Located within Limassol’s Archaeological Marine Park, the first of its kind in Cyprus, this unique site was officially established in 2009. It features the remains of the Ancient Port of Amathounta, offering both historical significance and natural beauty.
The site begins right from the coastline and reaches a maximum depth of 5 meters. The most captivating feature is the entrance to the ancient port, where divers can clearly see the layout of the southern mole, constructed with large squared stone blocks.
Today, this shallow yet fascinating dive site is not only a window into the island’s maritime past but also a lively marine habitat. It is home to octopuses, turtles, barracudas, lionfish, and even stingrays gliding along the sandy bottom. Various schooling fish can also be seen throughout the site.
This site is perfect for snorkelers and entry-level divers, and is regularly used for the Discover Scuba Diver Program for non-certified divers.
